BMB Records

Welcome to an alternate universe. It is like our own, just, not. They do not know we exist, and we don't know if they really exist or are just an artistic construct on my part(footnote1). All I know is there is a record company in that universe that publishes damn good rock. I get glimpses of that music in my head, which is really annoying because I am not particularly skilled in playing an instrument, so the best I can do is transcribe it into polished midi form. (I put an inordinate amount of work into making it not sound like ass. :c)

(footnote1: Yes, it is entirely fake; it is the Story that goes with the Music I like to write; I do not believe there really is an alternate universe. But I do believe, if we pretend this midi music represents actual rock bands, it makes for a really engaging form of art. That's called "wilful suspension of disbelief," and it is the philosophical base behind the profound field we know of as "Play!")

So. Alternate universe record company. It is called BMB Records. Of the bands signed on, the two I have seen most vividly have been Sunsetters and Coestts. Coestts formed in the late 90s and were a big influence on Sunsetters, Coestts are also a lot more willing to be harsh and weird and obscure whereas Sunsetters are fundamentally more palatable in sound and Traditional. Sunsetters has the bigger following, while Coestts has the tighter following. If that makes sense.

The Sunsetters are a five-piece rock group. They have a vocalist who also does keyboards, they have two guitarists, they have a bassist, and they have a drummer. They each have names, but I'll get into the details later. Let me show you the albums that we currently have access to.

The Mythology of Empathy Summer Sucks We Excavate Ancestor EP No Entry

Coestts is not ready yet. But is getting there. There are lots of polished demos, and the first album is nearly out.

IMPORTANT CREDITS INFORMATION: Sunsetters are a collaborative project between myself and Lindsay Taylor. They generally provide a lot of core compositions, and I generally edit things into their final form. They are the actual musician between us, whereas I am the one who cares way too much about MIDI music. We write in MuseScore, which is free open-source software for composing sheet music (with a midi playback function). So we both know music theory by now. We live an ocean apart.

Coestts, on the other hand, is primarily my "solo" work. Lindsay did write a Coestts song, titled "Inquiry," which will probably end up on the first album, but as a whole Coestts is DJay's Solo Albums. It is where I get to just explore midi for my own sake and expand my sense of what this form of music "should" sound like.

The art for the albums is provided by: Mythology, Hexillith. Summer Sucks, me editing collages of old public-domain paintings (on a base composed by Cadet), and an Yggdrasil composition by Hexillith. We Excavate, me again, with extra art again composed by Cadet. No Entry, Wiratomkinder. Coestts is up in the air right now but will probably be me.
